10th March 2013 - Swimming

Melcolm went for his swimming lessons as usual today. Just before he was back, I got a message from hubby saying that teacher said he can take stage 1 test already and told us to consider. However, teacher also mentioned that Melcolm's case is borderline, meaning that he might not pass the test. Teacher told us to consider and let him know. I'm abit shocked as I knew that he's still not good enough for the test.

Discussed with hubby when he's back. Mixed feelings as we are afraid that Melcolm may be sad  & disappointed if he fail the test. I also message his swim mate mummy for opinion. Message his teacher and asked for his frank opinion too and this is his long reply -

"Hi, generally almost all will pass as long as they are willing to try to do the test items. They fail only when they don't complete the test, mainly when they cry there and not willing to do.

Of all the test items, he is weakest in the backward movement of 5m, aka lying down on the back and kick.

Generally he can do all items, just that when it come to new situations and things, he adapt slower and not so willing to accept in. His character is quite soft and laid back so he doesn't like to work himself too hard.

There is a reasonable chance that he will cry or at least show a sad face at the test cause unfamiliar environment and people (kayden) is taking this round.

However, I think it is good for him to try even if he fail. He will build experience and know how the test is conducted. Unfortunately, he is the type who has to experience a bit of "hardship" (the amount of hardship is his perception) before he succeed. If he pass then he gain confidence so either way I think is good."

I am impressed by his reply ! We decide to let Melcolm to go for the test. If he pass is a bonus. If he fails, he can always retake in June but at least he gain experience from March test.

"Jiayou" Melcolm !!!!

Videos of all his test items done in today's lesson......
